What is Food Handler training?

In Texas, local regulatory authorities (health department, city, county) may require Food Handler training to prevent foodborne illness.  Food safety training is for employees that work unpackaged food, prepare, cook and serve food as well as handle equipment and utensils. Examples include; food prep, cook, dishwasher and wait staff.

Certification is valid for 2 years.

Thornhill Training provides online training as well as classes.

  1. Online program: online class and exam.
  2. Classroom: includes private and public classes.
    • Private class: We come to you and get your staff trained and certified all at once.
      No exam, everyone passes.
      Certificate given at the end of class. (Available in Austin, San Antonio, Houston regions)
      Private class information.
    • Public Class: Open to the public and conveniently located.
      No exam, everyone passes.
      Certificate given at the end of class.
      Public classes available in Austin.
    • City of Austin Food Handler training and registration.
      Public classes in English and Spanish.
      No exam, everyone passes.
      Certificate given at the end of class.

      By taking our class, food handlers will be certified in the State and the City of Austin. Certificates given at the end of class. We register food handlers with the City alleviating your trip to the Heath Dept. The City of Austin’s registration fee is $12.
      Please note: This fee is in addition to the cost of class if you want us to register you.
